Ever since I got my baby girl, Weleda baby products were
on my radar, especially Calendula nappy change cream. I didn’t hear any bad
review about this cream till date. So naturally I was curious. However, I was
not using many products other than coconut oil on my new born; I waited for a
little longer to actually try it. In response to one of my tweet, people at
Weleda were kind enough to send me Weleda Calendula Top to Toe set to try.
This set contains Weleda’s nappy change cream, shampoo
and body wash, body lotion and one small soft wash cloth, which came packed in
a transparent bag with string closure. The packaging was excellent.
Weleda products are certified organic and mostly plant based.
Calendula range has a nice delicate and milder fragrance from natural sources
which is safe for newborn skin. The whole range feels very luxurious, although
it is fairly affordable range. As a first time mum, I make very cautious decisions because I want to provide the best start to my daughter. Which, to some extent, makes me a paranoid parent but it is always better to expose babies to as much less nasty chemicals as possible in early days of their lives.
Weleda Calendula nappy change cream is of course my favourite of
them all. When I started using it on my baby, I found it rather ordinary. Although,
I liked the combination of natural oils and zinc oxide but it didn’t wow me. I
was already using coconut oil as a barrier and it works perfectly fine for her till date. So I kept the tube in changing bag because coconut oil is not travel friendly
no matter whichever way you store it. However, when I decided to give a chance
to another brand of wipes then our usual waterwipes, my baby got tiny red spots
on her bum and skin was a little tender. And I only used those wipes twice. I
decided to use Weleda nappy change cream. After first application, I was amazed
to find out at next nappy change that her skin was back to normal. It not only calmed
her skin but also repaired it. Therefore we have now one tube in a changing bag and
one at home. I can’t risk another incident really. I also used it on other part
of her body, especially neck folds, which were slightly red during the hot days
and it calmed the redness immediately.
Calendula body lotion is another firm favourite from the
range. It is also mildly fragranced and have chamomile extract to soothe skin. My
baby girl doesn’t have particularly dry skin, but there are few spots which get
slightly rough. I use lotion after every bath to keep her skin soft and it
helped a lot in keeping those areas supple and moisturise. It has light, thin
consistency and absorbs easily.
Calendula shampoo & body wash has plant based
cleansers, made from coconut and sugar. It is also gentle on skin and scalp. We
didn’t experience any dryness while suing the shampoo & body wash but we
didn’t use it much on her. Now she will be six months soon (I have no idea
where the time went) it will be perfect to use. According to Weleda, these
plant based detergents are biodegradable and safe for marine life.

This is such a sweet little range! I actually have ridiculously sensitive skin and use a wide range of baby products anyway so I think I'll give the body lotion a look.
